Koryun Vardanyan M.D. — Future ‘‘Face’’ of Plastic Surgery

Interviewer:  First of all, I want to thank you, Dr.Vardanyan, for your time. Let me start with the question of choosing your profession. Why did you choose to become a doctor?

Dr. Vardanyan:  Honestly, it was not a solo decision. I had a discussion with my family and we decided that with my personality, mentality and ambitions, I would be a good physician.

Interviewer:  If not a doctor, what career would you choose?

Dr. Vardanyan:  That`s a hard question. My father is a Theoretical and Experimental Physicist and my mother is an Economist (Regulation of Economy and International Economic Relations). They both saw me in their fields, but I think I would choose physics.

Interviewer:   Why did you choose to move to Moscow?

Dr. Vardanyan:  That was also a family decision. My brothers, sisters, relatives live in Russia, so moving to Moscow was just a matter of time.

Interviewer:  How does it feel to be the youngest doctor in Russia?

Dr. Vardanyan:  I am the youngest doctor not only in Russia, but in the Post-Soviet States and in Europe as well. Being the youngest doesn`t guarantee that you are the best, but it gives you motivation to work towards being the best in the near future.

Interviewer:  A lot of Plastic Surgeons have high expectations and consider you as the future ‘‘face’’ of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Does that add any pressure on you?

Dr. Vardanyan:  Definitely, even though you have potential, you should never stop learning and Plastic Surgery is a very competitive specialty, and when you get those expectations, not only from the public but also from the field experts and other Plastic Surgeons, that means you have to keep working hard to meet and even exceed their expectations. Since the day I chose Plastic Surgery, I have been learning and working really hard, and one day I hope I will be recognized as one of the best, if not the best surgeon in Aesthetic Surgery.

Interviewer:  Are you interested in working with younger generations? Maybe working in a university hospital, and helping them to get into the field?

Dr. Vardanyan:  I have been thinking a lot about that. I think next year I will apply for a Ph.D. program in Clinical Medicine (Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery). One of the main reasons for that decision is the idea of working with younger generations and helping them achieve their goals.

Interviewer:  And the final question: How does Dr. Vardanyan spend his free time, any hobbies?

Dr. Vardanyan:  To be honest, I don`t have that much free time, but I always find some time for MMA, Equestrianism and Tennis. I used to play basketball, volleyball too. Besides sports, I love to enjoy evenings with friends and family. Music and wine are, of course, two of those evenings` most essential ingredients.
